Ok, on to the giveaway.  The kind folks at Vegetarian Times magazine have offered to give a one-year subscription to one lucky winner.  I have been a subscriber for years, and I know that you will love this magazine, whether you are a vegetarian, vegan, or omnivore!

On a very sad note, today was a very tough day at work dealing with the death of one of our best teachers.  In honor of Mrs. Bates, one of the best teachers I’ve ever worked with, in order to enter the giveaway please leave a comment about your favorite teacher, and why they are your favorite.  Also, re-tweeting (and letting me know you did so) will score you points, too.

It’s been an emotionally hectic week at work, and I’ve been falling back on my John Bingham interview  and this giveaway as back-ups since I haven’t had the energy for regular posts this week but that should be back to normal soon!

In fact…. tomorrow night for my birthday Mike is treating me to a foodie’s paradise come true…..we are going to a FABULOUS, 4 star Chicago restaurant! I can’t wait to tell you guys all about it soon!

My favorite teacher would have to be my high school english teacher! Eventhough she was highly strick and she kinda picked on me in class…whenever I would ask for help on homework we would talk at lunch about life…everything and she was a mentor to me. I still miss her..she honestly cared about me and I can’t say that about my other teachers.

My favorite teacher was my theater professor. It was an elective I needed for a core requirement and far from any of my typical science and math classes. He taught me a lot about how to express and be true to myself. His class was always light hearted, fun, and enjoyable.

My high school drama teacher was absolutely one of my favourites. She fostered my growth and love of theater in those years and was like a mother to me (she even once sewed one of my cardigans when it had developed a hole)

Good teachers are such amazing gifts in each of our lives!

Hope that next week is better for you

i almost forgot to enter!!! my fave teacher was my 6th grade history/english teacher…she actually ended up becoming more of a mentor in life, and so when i was getting confirmed in high school, i asked her to be my sponsor. we have a pretty tight bond now, and its so weird that she was just my teacher so many years ago…shes definitely a far bigger part of my life now.

My favorite teacher of all time was my 7th-grade English teacher, Mr. Dunbar. I was in the “smart-kid” advanced classes, but never lived up to my potential except after his class. He hardly could hardly ever stay on topic and one day spent the class telling us about his job as a taffy-puller, but he taught us to learn what can’t be taught by formula.

In my yearbook, he wrote, “I remember one class, when we were analyzing a poem, you raised your hand and said, ‘I don’t know if this is right, but…’ and said something dead-on inspiring. You should never doubt yourself like that again.”
And I haven’t. And, I’ll be graduating in the spring as an English major, with honors.

i would loooove to win this. i’ve just started to cut meat out of my diet and i’m so stumped for good meatless meals!

my favorite teacher was mrs.irinici in grade one. she made me, the shyest kid in class, the editor of the class newspaper. it gave me such an amazing boost of confidence and was just what i needed! she was so amazing

My favorite teacher was my 12th grade English teacher, Mrs. LeGrand. She did so many crazy things to make us laugh and to make us really get in to the books we were reading. One day she came in to class dressed in a space suit! She also used to bring us pretzels and we’d take breaks in class to have tea time. :-)

I have had so many favorites. My kindergarten/firstgrade teachers (we had a split class) were the sweetest people. I intend to homeschool and recently reunited with one of them who now homeschools her son. She has been a wonderful resource for me and its awesome to have the support of a fabulous teacher.

Another Favorite was my 5th/6th teacher. She never held me back. I was losing interest in school because i was SO bored and she spent extra time and energy finding things for me to do. She taught me geometry and algerbra, advanced writing and even asked the school to send me down to the HS for english the last hour of the day. I am so grateful to her for finding way’s to keep me interested and also for being such a great teacher.

My college psych professor, for sure. I had a few classes with her, and she served as my advisory for two independent studies courses. She was very encouraging and supportive (even of my then-vegetarianism; I’ve since went vegan), and helped shaped my burgeoning feminism. If you’re reading, Dr. Cole, you rock!

    Will retweet this @easyvegan :)

My favorite teacher was my 2nd grade teacher – she was so kind and gentle to everyone – then one day I saw her working at a store (Macy’s equivalent) and felt so special to have seen her in ‘public’ – only much later as a young adult did I realize that she needed that ‘2nd job’ to make ends meet because teaching doesn’t pay very well. I will always remember her and how special she made everyone feel – her name was Miss Allen!

my absolute favorite teacher is Mrs. Fischer, my 2nd grade teacher.
she had such a gift for making learning interesting and fun – and she went ALL out on many occasions to help every student find a way to connect to the material. i remember walking into the classroom one morning and it was completely transformed into this underwater theme for a new science unit. i’m not just talking fish taped onto the walls, i mean she covered every ceiling light and window with blue tissue paper, hung these seaweed like things from the ceiling, covered the floor and each of our desks with a blueish saran wrap, etc. and there were tons of sea animals hanging from ceilings, desks, & walls. it was so obvious just how much she loved her job, and that made her an even better teacher.

    great giveaway :)

  14. My favorite teacher would be my high school chemistry teacher. He was an ex-hippie, he spoke to us like people rather than like kids, and science class was always a blast. I absolutely loved doing labs with him. And to show what a great guy he was, he actually came to my house during finals of my freshman year in college to help me study for my Chemistry 120 final! How many teachers would actually do that for a student who had already graduated high school?

  15. Annette says:

I had a teacher in middle school, Mr. Windsor, who I really credit with changing my life. He taught math and brought an amazing level of energy into the classroom, and he was always so creative with coming up with activities and games to make learning math more fun. But what he really did for me was that he believed in me at a time when no one else did. At the time I knew he was nice, but I didn’t really understand the import of what he had done for me until recently, when I got out a journal I’d kept in middle school and found an entry I’d written describing a conversation I had with him. He had figured out and understood my home situation, even though I had never told him about it. And he reached out to me on more than one occasion. I honestly think his presence in my life at that moment kept me from derailing.

Now, I’m in graduate school and a teacher myself. I can’t ever go back to thank Mr. Windsor for everything he did for me because he passed away very suddenly of unknown causes about 7 years ago. But what I can do is try to continue his classroom spirit with my own students. I think about him often. Teachers do so much more than just teach academic subjects, and I hope somehow I can have the positive impact on the world that he had.
