OK, thanks for being patient and forgiving about my oddly placed photos today. I just downloaded Windows Live Writer…. and I’m clearly still getting the hang of it! Do you have Live Writer? Any tips for navigating the program? I heard it makes things easier in the long run, so we shall see
After stuffing my face at lunch with bushels of bread and EVOO… oh yeah, and there was a salad in their somewhere too… I can home extremely stuffed! When I finally got up an appetite again, I helped myself to a lovely bowl-full margarita glass-full of cherries!
Dinner was a simple but very tasty creation!! I was dying to try the veggies from yesterday’s CSA delivery. So far, I am nothing but thrilled with this purchase!!! Love, love, love the organic, local produce.
I can honestly say that I’ve never bought dill at the store before, even though I enjoy it in dishes at restaurants. I was a bit hesitant, but put my fears aside and threw some into a salad with spinach, carrots, 1/2 avocado, and a dressing from flax oil, lemon juice, S & P. I absolutely loved this! Dill adds a subtle woody sweetness and it has a weirdly soft texture that was a fun contrast to the crunchy spinach.
That photo on the right is the salad sans flash – the one below is with it!
Mike and I just finished watching Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist… we weren’t wowed by it! It was a decently cute movie, but didn’t capture our attention too much. But we did enjoy a lovely glass of rose wine with the movie!
On the fitness front, I was contemplating taking yoga this morning at 8am – but the fact that I slept til 9 made this task slightly impossible! I ended up taking the day off since I was not painfully sore, but definitely creaky from yesterday’s 15 miler – and I wanted to be back in tip-top shape for spinning tomorrow!

Here’s a great article about school lunch reform: http://www.foodpolitics.com/2009/08/let-the-school-meals-revolution-begin/
As someone who works for a metropolitan school district, I have yet to see a decent plate of healthy food served to any of my students. Day after day, it’s pretty much a variant of cheese…. nachos, mozzarella sticks…. sometimes they stray from the cheese theme to serve some form of Grade D, unrecognizable meat.
Obviously all of you reading food blogs have an interest in healthy eating, and you don’t need me to tell you about the benefits of having children eat a more balanced, plant-filled diet that is based less on processed food. But clearly this is not a very important issue to our politicians… I realize it is an expensive endeavor to revamp the current system, but the pay-out will be worth it!
This is an issue that I feel very strongly about…. but I often feel frustrated that there is little I can do (or so it feels). It seems like an issue that needs to be changed on the federal and state levels, but I suppose even larger issues need smaller community grassroots groups to activate on their behalf! What do you think we can do, as individuals who are the “low man on the totem pole” to push for greater changes in this area??
Gratitude Journal:
1) Got 10 hours of much-needed sleep last night
2) Got to catch up with old friends to celebrate their birthdays
3) Loved the thunderstorm today… so cozy!
Dill (it’s not just for pickles) and School lunch reform

I love dill, my parents grow it and they use it in their homemade salsa and pickles!
I love your passionate about healthy school lunches and I feel the same about what we can really do about it!
Here’s a random question…in the photo of the cherries in martini glass, what are those red planks doing in the high rises buildings?
10 hours of sleep? Awesome!
I love dill! It’s good in so many things.
And I am so for school lunch reform. Kids need to know what eating right looks like.
Great topic to call attention to, my dear! Thank you.
I love dill, too.
